Caffeine, classified as a drug that stimulates activity in the brain and nervous system, is found in beverages like tea, coffee, soft drinks and energy drinks. Some energy drinks marketed to teens contain more caffeine than consumers might realize. This has prompted consumer advocates to call for stricter regulations on caffeinated beverages in order to protect young people from adverse side effects. Drink companies, though, have argued that labeling drinks as caffeinated and not intended for children should be enough.
